Scenic point |
Renown as one of the Eight Scenic Views of San’in, Lake Togo is also mentioned in the Hagoromo legend as the place where a heavenly maiden descended. The source of ”Hawai Onsen” and ”Togo Onsen” springs from the depths of the lake and the lake and landscape have been cherished by people since ancient times. During the event, you can stop at five of the seven unique foot baths that are known as the ”Hot Springs of the Seven Gods of Fortune.” Located near the town center of Yurihama, Togo Lake is famous for showing different, colorful faces depending on the season or time of day, and is particularly beautiful at sunset and on the winter mornings. A traditional fishing method called ”Yotsude-ami” of the Matsuzaki district is an age-old and widely-known landmark of Lake Togo. The course winds its way through a historic land with many shrines and temples such as Shitori Shrine of the god, Hoki-no-kuni Ichinomiya, as well as the ruins of over 600 ancient tombs including the San’in region's largest keyhole-shaped and Kitayama tomb mounds. The painting ”Togo-no-sho, Shitaji-chubun” which depicts the Togo Lake area during the Kamakura period has often appeared in textbooks with many of the scenes looking the same as today. In addition, retro-inspired streets with an atmosphere of the Showa period still remain near the JR Matsuzaki station. |
